 About GEMS: Continuing Education

The GEMS course is sponsored by the American Geriatrics Society and the National Council of State Emergency Medical Services Training Coordinators and is designed to meet the minimum standards related to the geriatric portion of the US Department of Transportation National Standard Curriculum for EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate, and Paramedic providers. GEMS Course Coordinators need to work with the appropriate agency in their region to arrange for securing continuing education credits for participants. If not certain about how to secure continuing education credits in your state, contact the EMS office in your state.

Course Coordinators can also apply to a national organization for continuing education credit. A few examples are below:

Continuing Education Board for Emergency Medical Services (CECBEMS)
5111 Mill Run Road
Dallas, TX 75244

Emergency Nurses Association
915 Lee Street
Des Plaines, IL 60016-6569

American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA)
950 North Washington Street
Alexandria, VA 22314-1552
Contact the AAPA for more information on securing continuing education credit.
